Strengths as hiding place
The habits that built your success may be limiting your next stage of growth.

Strengths as hiding place
ARE YOUR STRENGTHS ACTUALLY YOUR HIDING PLACE?
There's a version of competence that looks like excellence from the outside and functions as avoidance from the inside.
We all have ways of getting things done. Patterns that work, approaches that deliver results, methods we've refined over years. And at some point, those patterns stop being tools and start being territory we defend.
Getting things done our way stops being a preference and becomes a requirement. And when things don't go that way, something shifts.
We call it high standards. Sometimes it is.
But sometimes it's something else — a way of staying in control so we never have to face what happens when we're not.
The strength is yours. The results are yours. And so is the thing underneath them that you haven't looked at yet.
Hiding in competence is one of the most socially rewarded things a person can do. Nobody questions the person who delivers or asks the high performer to examine their methods. The results speak, and the conversation ends there.
But the pattern follows you. Into new roles, new relationships, new environments.
Because it was never really about the work. It was about what the work was doing for you.
The hardest thing to unlearn is the thing that made you successful. Not because you can't see it — because letting go feels like losing something that once kept you safe.
For a long time, it did.
The question is whether it still does — or whether it has quietly become the ceiling.
Until next time – unlearning with you,
